2009-2010 LKS Library News!

Welcome back to another fantastic start to the school year. The library is a great place to work and learn. Included are some basic borrowing and library routines that I hope that all families will become familiar with.
Library materials may be borrowed for 2 weeks at a time. After 2 weeks, the item is automatically marked ‘overdue’ and there is a ‘block’ on the account. This means that the computer will not allow any further borrowing without my assistance.
Kindergarten students have a limit of 1 at a time. They will be allowed to take 1 more if the first is forgotten the next library period. Once they have 2 books on their account, their borrowing privileges will be suspended.
*Please mark library days on your calendars.

Grades 1-8 students start out taking 2. This will increase to a limit of 3 in October and 4 in November.
In addition to the regular school day, the library will be available to students for independent reading, researching and homework during the following times:
Monday AM and PM recess – Grades 1 and 2
Tuesday AM and PM recess – Grades 3 and 4
Wednesday AM and PM recess – Grades 5 and 6
Thursday and Friday AM recess – Grades 7 and 8
Everyday after school until 3:45
(unless there is a meeting, etc…)
As life does happen, there will be some times that I will not be available. I will post a note on the library door if that happens.

THANK YOU to all parents who have helped in finding last year’s overdue library books! Students with overdues or lost materials may not be able to take out any new materials until they have ‘cleared their block’ on the computer. Please have your child see me if there are any issues with lost or damaged materials. The standard fine is $5.00 for fiction and $10.00 for non-fiction. If the book was new, the fine may be greater.

If you are available to come into the library to help in any way, please contact me at cynthia.mcgee@tel.tdsb.on.ca There is always a need to ‘read the shelves’ and help is always appreciated! Thanks to all of the parents who have already come in to say ‘hi’ or lend a hand.

Sincerely,
Cindy McGee
